UB will celebrate the academic excellence of its students at the two-part Celebration of Student Academic Excellence on April 30 featuring a showcase of research followed by an awards ceremony.
The research portion, which begins at 1 p.m. in Alumni Arena, will showcase undergraduate and graduate students who are presenting their mentored research, scholarship, and creative and community projects.
The showcase is an opportunity for attendees to learn about innovative research and creative projects conducted by UB students. The student showcase is coordinated by the Experiential Learning Network (ELN).
“All units across campus nominate their best student projects to be displayed at this event, so it truly is a celebration of student academic excellence,” said Christina Heath, director of ELN. “I hope this event is a launching point for all participating students that will carry them through to rewarding careers.”
The ceremony portion of the event begins at 3 p.m. in Slee Hall and is hosted by President Satish K. Tripathi and Provost A. Scott Weber. Student recipients of several awards — including national scholarships and fellowships, the SUNY Graduate Research Empowering and Accelerating Talent (GREAT) Award and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence — will be honored.
“The Celebration of Student Academic Excellence recognizes the commitment and perseverance our students embody in their research and academic endeavors. It is a time for our campus community to come together and applaud their outstanding successes,” says Graham Hammill, vice provost for academic affairs and dean of the Graduate School. “We look forward to seeing the contributions they will make in the future.”
